Welcome to English 10!
I'm ecstatic to teach Sophomore English again this year. I have spent innumerable hours over the last couple of summers preparing to implement a new grading practice. Two years ago, I piloted standards-based grading with my sophomores, and I'm happy to report that my failure rate dropped significantly. I truly believe standards-based grading is beneficial for ALL students! In addition, standards based grading helps more students pass the OAKS test in reading and writing, which students must now pass in order to graduate from high school.
Because change can be difficult, I've included numerous documents to help keep everyone informed. Please feel free to review or print any documents found under "important documents." In addition, please email me with any questions that arise regarding proficiency grading. This change has been three years in the making. I'm exceedingly passionate about it, and I welcome the opportunity to explain my rationale and to help my students learn!
I'm looking forward to a great year with my sophomores!
