TUALATIN HIGH SCHOOL PROFICIENCY OVERVIEW
YOUR GRADE WILL REFLECT WHAT YOU KNOW AND CAN DO!
How exactly do I earn a grade in this class?
We have 10 standards. For every standard, you get two opportunities to demonstrate your understanding of that particular standard. If you improve on your second attempt (assessment) for that standard, your overall score will become whatever you earned on that second attempt. However, if you go down, you will get an average or the score you demonstrated twice. For example, if you earned an Exceeds on the first attempt, but only got a Meets on the second, your final score for that standard will remain a meets, as that is the score you demonstrated twice. If you went from and Exceeds to a Nearly Meets, the two scores will average, so you will also earn a Meets for that standard.
In order to earn an "A" in the class, you will need at least 4 EXCEEDS and 6 MEETS. In the event that you have a NEARLY MEETS in a standard, you will have third opportunity to meet that standard by the end of the semester. Since we have 10 standards, each standard is essentially 10% of the grade. All standards have equal weight, but remember that you can only MEET the Life Skills standard, so you will need 4 EXCEEDS on academic measures.
